Figure’s Take Rate Is Shrinking By Design

The metric analysts pressed hardest on is falling because the company’s capital-light marketplace is taking over its volume.

Figure Technology Solutions (FIGR) beat on both lines when it reported second quarter 2026 results on August 13, and the stock closed 3.9% higher that day against 0.7% for the S&P 500. The questions that followed went elsewhere, to one number that fell: the take rate, which landed toward the low end of its guided range. Management says that is not a warning. It is the bill for the growth.

Growth Is What Pushed The Take Rate Toward The Bottom Of Its Range

Net take rate, the marketplace fees and gains Figure keeps as a share of consumer loan marketplace volume, was 3.6% in the second quarter of 2026. That is toward the low end of the 3.5% to 4% range management set out earlier in the year; management expects it to sit there again in the third quarter of 2026.

By the company’s own account that is not a price cut. Management did name one non-structural driver: interest rates rose in the quarter, which hurt gain on sale. The bigger reason is structural. Figure Connect, the tokenized loan marketplace it launched in June 2024, earns the lowest take rate of the three ways Figure moves volume: direct to consumer, Figure as intermediary, and Connect.

Most Of The Biggest New Partners Now Onboard Straight To Figure Connect

Connect carried 65% of consumer loan marketplace volume in the quarter, up from 42% twelve months earlier, and management now expects it to approach 70% over the medium term rather than the 60% it previously estimated. The largest partners increasingly go direct to Connect instead of routing through Figure as an intermediary, and the volume pricing tiers set when a partner signs up step down as that partner grows. Scaling its own partners is what compresses Figure’s blended rate. New American Funding, an existing partner that moved onto Connect in early April, grew its volume 80% quarter over quarter.

Fees Became The Largest Revenue Line As Margin Widened

What the rate gives up, the business model takes back elsewhere. Adjusted net revenue of $218 million cleared consensus of $212 million, and earnings per share cleared its $0.25 consensus too. More telling: ecosystem and technology fees became the largest contributor to that revenue for the first time, which is what the mix shift to Connect looks like on the income statement. Adjusted EBITDA margin was 55% against 47% a year earlier; excluding a gain from the sale of a business Figure part-owned it was about 52%. Margin widening while volume more than doubles is the kind of quality that marks the holdings in the Trefis High Quality Portfolio.

The Take Rate May Not Be The Scoreboard Much Longer

Management says the pending Kiavi acquisition, on track to close in the second half of 2026, will add another dynamic to take rate, and that it wants to show investors contribution margin instead. Until then the test is volume against price. Figure guided third quarter 2026 consumer loan marketplace volume to $4.8 billion to $5.2 billion, against the $4.3 billion it just delivered, itself 132% above a year earlier. Whether volume keeps outrunning the rate it earns is exactly the question a guidance-driven momentum screen exists to ask.

One Good Quarter Can Make A Position Bigger Than It Should Be

A pop like this is the payoff for holding through the uncertainty, and it is also how sizeable positions quietly get bigger. A position that has grown large enough to matter is worth sizing deliberately rather than by accident. What a position that size would do to your net worth is exactly what the Trefis Wealth team computes, with the same rules-based systematic discipline that runs our High Quality Portfolio.
