A technology giant is growing faster than almost any company its size, yet the market is valuing it like a slow-moving utility. What does Wall Street see that the numbers seem to miss?

At about $539.03 a share, Meta Platforms (META) stock is trading 32% below its 52-week high, and its recent performance has been weak. But beneath the price action lies a stark contradiction. The company’s revenue grew 28% over the past year, yet it offers a 5.0% earnings yield, a return that stands above the 4.7% yield on a 10-year Treasury bond. A high-growth technology leader is priced with a yield you might expect from a no-growth utility. The market appears to be pricing Meta as if its best days are behind it.

You’re Paying Almost Nothing For 28% Growth.

An earnings yield of 5.0% is simply the inverse of a price-to-earnings ratio of 20.1x. That is not a demanding valuation for a business whose user base includes 3.6 billion people using at least one of its apps daily. It is an exceptionally low price for a business growing the top line at 28%. And no, this isn’t just a bounce from a weak prior year; the company’s 3-year average revenue growth is 24%, meaning the current pace is an acceleration. These are also cash profits, not accounting fiction, with operating cash flow running at 191% of net income.

At this price, an investor is effectively buying the current stream of earnings at a yield competitive with government bonds and receiving the rapid growth for free. This is the kind of valuation disconnect that rarely lasts.

So Why Is The Market Ignoring It?

The market is not blind; it is scared. The anxiety centers on Meta’s large spending. Management anticipates capital expenditures for 2026 will be in the range of $130 billion to $145 billion, an enormous sum dedicated to building out the infrastructure for its artificial intelligence ambitions. Investors see a company pouring money into a multi-year project with no clear timeline for a return, and they fear today’s profits are being sacrificed for an uncertain future. The core fear is that these are peak earnings, soon to be diluted by a large, speculative investment cycle.

This is the honest catch. For the current stock price to be correct, you must believe this AI spending will destroy value, not create it.

The Ad Business Must Justify The AI Spending.

Ultimately, the debate resolves to a single question: can the core advertising business, which powers the Family of Apps segment, generate enough cash to fund the AI buildout and still grow? The early signs suggest it can. Management states that its AI investments are already paying off, driving “significant increases in relevance and conversions on both Facebook and Instagram.” More specifically, recent AI advancements in its ad systems generated an 8.3% increase in ad clicks and a 15.7% uplift in conversions on Facebook.

This is the number to watch. The health of the ad business is the engine funding the entire enterprise. Management’s guidance for Q3 revenue is a direct reflection of that engine’s power. Whether the company meets or beats that target when it next reports on 10/27/2026, will tell us if the current profits are strong enough to build the future.
