S&P 500 Movers | Winners: HOOD, COIN, PLTR | Losers: CIEN, TSN, CHTR
A strong day for the indexes saw extreme moves in stocks already deep into longer-term trends.
Robinhood Markets (HOOD) led the S&P 500 with a +16.6% return on a day when the major indexes posted solid gains. The S&P 500 itself returned +1.1%, while the Dow Jones Industrial Average and the Nasdaq-100 both returned +1.2%.
The day’s extremes, however, were not isolated events. The most important question is whether these are fresh moves or the continuation of established momentum. The one-day lists below offer the first clues.

So what does a disciplined investor do with this list?
A movers list is a map of where the market’s attention is focused, not a set of instructions. The tables earlier show which moves are new and which have been building over a week or a month. A large gain or loss is simply a signal that something has changed.
The disciplined follow-up is always the same. It is to look past the stock price and check the fundamentals of the business behind the ticker. The list tells you what is volatile; your own work tells you what has value.
Either side of these lists can be a lead worth following, with the same follow-up question: does the business back the move? For the winners, our Guidance Momentum screen tracks which companies raised their own forward numbers. For the losers, our Buy the Dip screen flags which marked-down names still have the fundamentals to recover.
Volatility Is The Cost Of Owning Stocks. Concentration Makes It A Bill
Every name on these lists made a move big enough to notice. A diversified holder reads that as noise; a concentrated holder feels it as real money. The difference is not the stock, it is the portfolio around it.
Building that portfolio is what the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio does: roughly 30 businesses with the cash generation and balance-sheet strength to absorb bad days, selected and rebalanced by rules. It has a track record of outpacing a benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. Let the movers list remind you why diversification exists.
