Iron Mountain (IRM) stock fell 11.1% on Thursday, November 5, 2026, during a trading session in which the S&P 500 lost 4.4%. U.S. stocks were routed that day as midterm election results raised questions about the durability of the artificial intelligence boom, The Motley Fool reported. The decline coincided with the company reporting its third-quarter results and raising its revenue forecast for 2026. What did Iron Mountain report, and what does it expect for the fourth quarter?

What Iron Mountain Reported And What It Expects Next

Third-quarter revenue reached $1.99 billion, matching the analyst consensus of about $1.99 billion and exceeding the projection management gave on its previous call. That total represented a 13% increase from a year earlier. Revenue from the data center business rose 34%, while the physical storage business grew at a mid-single-digit rate.

Management raised its 2026 revenue forecast to $7.95 billion to $8.02 billion, a target it said sits nearly $300 million ahead of its initial guidance. Alongside the updated forecast, the board lifted the quarterly dividend by 15%.

Revenue growth has slowed since the first quarter of 2026, however. The company recorded year-over-year revenue gains of 21.6% in the first quarter and 18.5% in the second. For the fourth quarter, management expects about $2.03 billion of revenue, up 10% from a year earlier.

Did Iron Mountain Fall More Than Other Stocks?

Iron Mountain fell more than twice as far as the S&P 500. During the same session, the Nasdaq Composite dropped 5.5%, while the SPDR real estate sector fund (XLRE), which tracks the sector Iron Mountain belongs to, lost 1.8%.

Among the companies on Iron Mountain’s Trefis peer list, Digital Realty fell 5.5% and Equinix fell 5.4%. Iron Mountain moved the same way as those two companies and the wider market, but the stock fell about twice as far as either of them.

Routs like November 5 tend to arrive in bunches. Here’s what history says comes next.

How Unusual Was Iron Mountain’s Fall?

Iron Mountain had not fallen this much in a single session over the prior 365 days. Before Thursday, its largest one-day fall in that time was 6.9% on November 13, 2025.

The stock closed at its 52-week low of $78.86 on December 18, 2025, and climbed to a closing high of $133.06 on June 23, 2026. Over the six months to November 5, the shares lost 15.6% including dividends, against a 0.8% gain for the S&P 500. Over the full twelve months it returned 5.5%, against 9.9% for the S&P 500.

Iron Mountain is expected to report its fourth-quarter results in February 2027, and management said it will update how it reports its business segments on that call. Moving forward, fourth-quarter revenue measured against the guide management gave on November 5 is the number to watch.
