Alphabet (GOOGL) stock has returned 39% over the past year, against 16.8% for the S&P 500. In July 2026, management raised its 2026 capital spending plan to $195 billion to $205 billion.

Investors will get several chances over the next six months to see whether that spending is paying off. Here are the events most likely to move Alphabet stock in that time, and the three that matter most.

Search Growth In Alphabet’s October Report

Search growth matters most, because Search is Alphabet’s largest business. Alphabet is expected to report its fiscal Q3 2026 results in late October.

Search and other advertising revenue rose 17% to $63.3 billion in fiscal Q2 2026. That was more than half of Alphabet’s revenue for the quarter. On the fiscal Q2 2026 call, management said Search growth in fiscal Q3 2026 would be measured against a stronger quarter. That year-earlier quarter is when Search growth started to speed up.

When Alphabet reports in late October, watch whether Search growth stays close to 17% or slows clearly. Those Search results arrive while Alphabet’s spending on AI data centers is climbing fast.

A Bigger Spending Plan For 2027

Alphabet expects its capital spending to rise significantly in 2027. On the July 2026 call, management did not say by how much, or when it would give details.

The spending goes into servers, data centers and networking equipment for AI. Management raised the 2026 plan mainly to deliver capacity faster. Demand is growing, it said. Free cash flow, the cash left after capital spending, was a negative $5.9 billion in fiscal Q2 2026. Management tied that to the spending. It expects free cash flow to stay under pressure.

The figure to watch is how far the 2027 plan lands above the 2026 plan. Alphabet has also named 2027 as the year most revenue from its current TPU system sales arrives.

TPU System Sales Ramping Into 2027

TPU system sales are a new source of revenue for Alphabet. They build up as 2026 ends. Alphabet first delivered TPU systems, built on Google’s own AI chips, to customer data centers in fiscal Q2 2026. Management expects only a small part of the revenue from these agreements in 2026. It expects most of it in 2027.

Management described these sales as an expansion of the market Alphabet can sell to. It gave no revenue figure for them. Demand for Alphabet’s AI capacity still outpaces its investment, management said. Google Cloud as a whole has a backlog of revenue that customers have committed to but Alphabet has not yet booked. That backlog reached $514 billion in fiscal Q2 2026.

In late October, watch whether management says TPU system sales are still ramping as 2026 ends. Alphabet’s shareholders have already seen how hard the stock can fall around results.

What Would Another Big Fall In Alphabet Cost You?

A repeat of the stock’s worst fall of the past year would leave a $10,000 holding worth about $7,900. Alphabet stock fell 21.1% between May 13 and July 23, 2026. That fall ended with an 8.5% drop in the two days around the fiscal Q2 2026 call.

If you could sit through that loss without selling, your position is sized appropriately. If not, trim the holding until the potential dollar loss fits within your personal risk budget. The key dates run from October end through early 2027, when Alphabet is expected to put a formal figure on its 2027 spending during its Q4 call.
