F5 (FFIV) stock fell 20.4% on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, while the S&P 500 rose 0.3%. The decline came the day after the company’s October 27 release of results for its fiscal fourth quarter of 2026, which topped analysts’ estimates for both adjusted earnings per share and revenue. The beat was only part of the release, as F5 also issued its outlook for the new fiscal year. So what exactly did F5 report, and what does it expect for fiscal 2027?

F5 Beat Estimates But Expects Slower Revenue Growth
For the quarter ended September 30, 2026, F5 posted adjusted earnings per share of $4.42, beating the $4.26 estimate. Revenue reached $917.4 million, exceeding the projected $884.0 million. Management said the 13% revenue growth from a year earlier surpassed the top of its own guidance range. Product revenue climbed 23%, while services revenue increased 3%.
For fiscal 2027, management guided to total revenue growth of 8% to 9%, below the 11% F5 reported for fiscal 2026. Not every part of the business is expected to slow. Management expects software to grow at a solid double-digit rate, after 8% growth in fiscal 2026. It expects growth in systems to be stronger in the first half of the year than in the second, and tied the slower second half to the cyclical part of an ongoing systems refresh.
Management also said its fiscal 2027 gross margin outlook reflects higher component costs, projecting an adjusted gross margin of 80.5% to 82.5% for the year. Fourth-quarter cash flow reflected inventory builds and supplier prepayments made to secure supply for fiscal 2027 revenue, management said, and F5 expects to keep increasing inventory in fiscal 2027. Operating cash flow in the fourth quarter was $118 million, compared with $208 million a year earlier.
Did Companies Like F5 Fall Too?
They did, but by far less. All five companies on F5’s Trefis peer list fell during the same session. Fortinet recorded the largest decline of the five, dropping 5.9%, while Cisco Systems, another company on the list, lost 1.0%. The wider technology sector went the other way, as XLK, the SPDR fund for the sector, gained 0.8%. F5’s drop was more than three times the size of Fortinet’s, so the stock moved largely on its own rather than with its group.
Where Does F5 Stock Stand After The Fall?
F5 had not fallen this much in a single session at any time in the prior 365 days.
Over the twelve months to October 28, F5 stock returned 25.9%, compared with 14.0% for the S&P 500. The shares closed at a 52-week high of $479.83 on October 9, 2026, up from a 52-week low of $223.99 on November 19, 2025. After the drop they ended Wednesday at $365.53, about 24% below that high. Over the month to October 28, a period that includes the drop, the stock lost 16.6%, while the S&P 500 gained 1.0%.
F5 is expected to report its fiscal first-quarter 2027 results in January 2027. Systems revenue growth, which management expects to be stronger in the first half of the fiscal year, is the figure to watch then.

There is a smarter approach. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
