Shares of DoorDash (DASH) fell 6.1% on Monday, October 26, 2026, during a session in which the S&P 500 gained 0.7%. The drop occurred on the day news reports said DoorDash was in advanced talks to buy its delivery rival Instacart. How big is the deal DoorDash is reported to be discussing?

News reports on October 26 said a potential agreement would value Instacart at roughly $17 billion, compared with DoorDash’s market value of $73.2 billion at that day’s close. People familiar with the matter said a deal could be announced as soon as the week of October 26. Neither company has confirmed the talks, and any deal would likely face antitrust review.
Reports that Instacart was exploring a sale first ran on Friday, October 23, and Instacart’s stock surged that day. A news report on October 24 said Uber and DoorDash were circling, and that one of the two had already walked away. Instacart competes with major retailers in the grocery delivery market, and the reported talks took place as DoorDash expands beyond its restaurant delivery roots. Analysts quoted in one report said a possible deal is about keeping up with Walmart and Amazon.
Did DoorDash Fall With Other Consumer Stocks?
No. The consumer discretionary sector fund, XLY, rose 1.0% during the same session, and the Nasdaq Composite gained 0.8%. Target fell 2.8%, the largest drop among DoorDash’s five peers, while Amazon.com rose 0.4%. DoorDash fell more than twice as far as any of its peers: the stock moved on its own rather than with its broader group.
Where DoorDash Stock Stands After The Drop
A decline of this size is not rare for DoorDash. The stock experienced six falls at least this large in the prior 365 days, with the latest being a 7.7% drop on September 28, 2026. Monday’s drop also immediately followed a 3.5% fall on Friday, October 23.
Over the 12 months to October 26, DoorDash stock lost 33.8%, while the S&P 500 returned 15.3%. The shares closed that day at $168.44, well below the 52-week closing high of $266.06 set on October 29, 2025, but still above the closing low of $146.60 from March 27, 2026. Over the past month alone, from September 25 to October 26, the stock lost 12.9% while the S&P 500 slipped 0.8%.
DoorDash is valued at 4.6 times its sales over the past twelve months, compared with 3.2 times for the S&P 500. The company is expected to report its fiscal Q3 2026 results in November 2026. Revenue growth, 35.6% from a year earlier in fiscal Q2 2026, is the measure to watch in that report.
