Cisco Systems (CSCO) posted a 17.6% sales increase for the quarter ended July 2026 compared with the same period a year earlier. This marks the fastest quarterly sales growth the company has recorded in ten years. Take a guess before reading on: how fast do Cisco’s sales grow in a normal quarter?

How Unusual Is This For Cisco?

The latest result is highly unusual. In a typical quarter over the last ten years, Cisco’s sales grew 4.5% from a year earlier. The latest quarter saw sales increase roughly four times as fast. Over this ten-year period, the company has seen sales fall in some quarters and grow in others.

Quarter ended Sales, change from the same quarter a year earlier
Jul 2017 -4.0%
Jul 2018 5.9%
Jul 2019 4.5%
Jul 2020 -9.5%
Jul 2021 8.0%
Jul 2022 -0.183%
Jul 2023 16.0%
Jul 2024 -10.3%
Jul 2025 7.6%
Jul 2026 17.6%

One fiscal quarter in each row: the same fiscal quarter in each year, Jul 2017 to Jul 2026.

Cisco’s previous best was 16.0%, set in the quarter to July 2023. No subsequent period beat that mark until this latest quarter, making this a newly established record rather than the continuation of an existing one.

What Is Behind Cisco’s Record Sales Growth?

Networking, which is Cisco’s largest business, expanded far faster than the rest of the company. In the fiscal year to July 2026, networking sales rose 22.5%, and the unit now makes up 54.7% of Cisco’s revenue. The company’s other major segments barely grew over the same year: Services sales were flat, and Security sales rose 1.7%. The faster growth for the year thus came from a single business line.

Is The Latest Quarter Still Improving?

The growth rate is continuing to pull away from historical norms. A single strong quarter can often be a one-off event. In this case, however, Cisco’s sales growth has quickened in each of the last three quarters.

Growth hit 7.5% in the quarter to October 2025 and 9.7% in the quarter to January 2026. The pace then reached 12.0% in the quarter to April, leading into the record set in the quarter to July. This recent peak therefore represents the latest step in a steady acceleration.

When The Record Is Next Tested

Cisco’s own projections point to faster growth again. In an August 12, 2026 release, management forecast fiscal Q1 2027 revenue to come in about 21% above a year earlier at the midpoint. Fiscal Q1 2027 is the period immediately following the record, although this figure remains a forecast rather than a finalized result.

Cisco stock has returned 71.6% since October 13, 2025, compared with a 17.3% gain for the S&P 500.

When the company issues its next earnings report, expected on or around November 10, 2026, the key metric to watch will be fiscal Q1 2027 sales growth measured against the July quarter’s record.

Our purpose is to inform you with unique data so you make the right investment decisions. That said, betting on a single stock is always risky, no matter which direction you choose.

There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
