Boston Scientific (BSX) stock rose 5.6% on Monday, November 2, 2026, while the S&P 500 fell 0.5%. The company announced that day that a study of its WATCHMAN heart device met its primary endpoints, as several peers also recorded gains, including a 5.1% rise for Stryker. So what did the WATCHMAN study find, and why does it matter for a device whose U.S. sales fell in fiscal Q3 2026?

What Boston Scientific Announced On November 2

The SIMPLAAFY trial evaluated post-implant medications for WATCHMAN, a device that closes the heart’s left atrial appendage. Patients taking either of two single-drug options performed no worse at six months than patients prescribed the usual two anti-platelet drugs. The company said the results support the potential to simplify drug regimens after the procedure.

WATCHMAN has been under pressure. On the October 28 earnings call, management said the device’s U.S. sales fell 7% from a year earlier in fiscal Q3 2026. Management also said it is assuming the market does not improve, with added pressure from a new competitive launch.

On November 2, Blackstone Life Sciences announced a $455 million collaboration to co-fund development of VITALYST, a miniature heart pump for patients with cardiogenic shock. Management mentioned the agreement during the October 28 call and said the funding will be recognized as a reduction to R&D expense as the costs come in. Boston Scientific also filed its quarterly 10-Q report with the SEC on November 2.

Did Other Health Care Stocks Rise With Boston Scientific?

The broader health care sector did not join the rally, with the sector fund XLV slipping 0.1% that day. However, four of Boston Scientific’s five Trefis peers advanced. Stryker gained 5.1% and Abbott Laboratories added 3.7%, while Johnson & Johnson fell. Abbott also presented one-year data that day for its own device that closes the left atrial appendage.

Boston Scientific outpaced all five of its peers with its 5.6% rise. You can read the day as a move with most of its peers, against the sector fund and the market.

Boston Scientific Stock Is Down More Than Half

A daily gain of this size is rare for Boston Scientific, which recorded only two rises at least this large in the prior 365 days. Its latest move this big in either direction was a 5.8% fall on October 28, the day of the earnings call.

Over the past twelve months, the stock lost 55.9%, compared with an 11.8% gain for the S&P 500. Its $44.32 close on November 2 sits near its 52-week closing low of $41.58, set on October 7, 2026. The closing high of $104.98 occurred on November 13, 2025. Shares lost 22.0% over the past six months, though they gained 4.0% over the past month.

At that price, Boston Scientific trades at 3.1 times its sales over the twelve months to September 2026, compared with 3.3 times for the S&P 500.

Boston Scientific is expected to report its fiscal fourth-quarter 2026 results in February 2027, and U.S. sales of WATCHMAN are the figure to watch.
