Boston Scientific (BSX) stock fell 5.8% on Wednesday, October 28, 2026, while the S&P 500 gained 0.3%. The decline occurred as the medical device maker reported its third-quarter 2026 results and lowered its outlook following a cyberattack on its business. So what did the cyberattack cost Boston Scientific in the quarter?

What Did The Cyberattack Cost Boston Scientific?
News reports indicated that a cybersecurity incident disrupted Boston Scientific’s manufacturing and product shipments for eight business days. That outage reduced third-quarter sales by $150 million. During the same period, competitive and pricing pressures weighed on key cardiovascular franchises, according to the reports.
The quarter held up against analysts’ estimates. Revenue reached $5.14 billion, coming in above the $5.09 billion estimate. Adjusted earnings per share were $0.73, in line with the $0.727 estimate. Revenue growth slowed sharply, however. Revenue rose 1.5% from a year earlier, compared to 7.5% growth in the second quarter of 2026.
The outlook provided a larger shift. Boston Scientific lowered its outlook and now expects full-year 2026 organic revenue growth of 4%, along with a fourth-quarter sales decline to end the year. Management also said it will be challenged to grow sales and adjusted earnings per share in 2027, excluding its pending acquisition of Penumbra. News reports linked the fall in the shares to the cut in fourth-quarter sales and full-year earnings guidance, alongside contracting margins and weaker segment sales.
Did Boston Scientific Fall On Its Own?
It did. The SPDR health care sector fund, XLV, gained 0.3% during the same session. Four of the five companies on the Trefis peer list for Boston Scientific rose, including Medtronic and Stryker, which were each up 0.9%. Abbott Laboratories was the only peer to fall, and its 0.4% drop was small compared to the decline at Boston Scientific.
Boston Scientific Stock More Than Halved In A Year
Over the past year Boston Scientific stock lost 58.6%, while the S&P 500 returned 14.0%. Declines like the one on October 28 have been part of that slide. The stock experienced four sessions in the prior 365 days with a fall at least this large, most recently logging a 5.9% drop on September 8, 2026.
The slide has not let up. Over the past six months the shares lost 25.8%, against a 9.1% gain for the S&P 500. The October 28 close of $42.43 sits just above the 52-week closing low of $41.58, set on October 7, 2026. The 52-week closing high was $104.98, recorded on November 13, 2025.
Boston Scientific is expected to report its fourth-quarter results in February 2027. When it does, fourth-quarter sales against the year-earlier quarter will be the figure to watch.
