Boeing (BA) stock fell 10.7% on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, while the S&P 500 gained 0.6%. The drop came the same day Boeing reported its third-quarter results, and news reports linked it to a shortfall in 737 Max deliveries. So what did Boeing report, and what did management say about its deliveries?

A Wider-Than-Expected Loss Came With A Delivery Warning
Boeing reported an adjusted loss of $0.34 per share, wider than the $0.25 loss analysts had estimated. Revenue topped expectations, coming in at $24.19 billion against $23.95 billion. The company’s total revenue rose 3.9% from a year earlier as growth in its defense and services businesses offset weakness in commercial aircraft.
The commercial airplane business shrank. Revenue for the segment fell 3% from a year earlier to $10.7 billion, mainly on a less favorable mix of deliveries, management said.
Management also said Boeing is taking longer than it expected to steadily run the 737 Max at 47 a month, and that getting fully stable will take until sometime in 2027, leaving 737 Max deliveries short of its target of 500 for the year. Management plans for a rate of 52 a month in the back half of 2027.
Did Boeing’s Peers Fall As Much?
No. Four of Boeing’s five peers on the Trefis list also fell that session, but none lost more than 2.5%, while GE Aerospace rose 3.2%. XLI, the fund tracking the industrials sector, gained 0.6%, matching the S&P 500. Boeing fell on its own: the stock’s peers moved far less than Boeing did during the session, and its sector rose.
Boeing Stock Closed At A One-Year Low
Boeing had not fallen this much in a single session over the prior 365 days. The stock’s close of $168.18 was its lowest in that time, compared with a highest close of $252.15 on January 23, 2026.
The stock lost 24.0% in the year to October 27, 2026, while the S&P 500 returned 15.0%. Most of this slide occurred recently. Boeing stock fell 21.4% from July 29 to October 27, 2026, a period when the S&P 500 rose 5.8%.
Boeing is expected to report its fourth-quarter results in January 2027. The company’s commercial airplane deliveries for 2026 are the number to watch in that report. Management said it will also provide more detail on its 2027 deliveries, program by program, in January.
