Accenture’s Stock Fell Like A Shrinking Business, But Its Revenue Grew

Accenture (ACN) has lost about 22% of its value over the past twelve months, the second-worst return in its peer group. The name it sits beside down there is Booz Allen Hamilton (BAH), whose revenue fell over the same window while Accenture’s grew. The shares have been repriced as though the business were shrinking, even though trailing results and forward guidance show continued top-line expansion. It is not.

Does Accenture’s Business Look Like Booz Allen’s?

Booz Allen Hamilton lost about 24% over the past twelve months, a shade more than Accenture. Booz Allen’s revenue fell 7.3% across that window on a 9.5% operating margin. Accenture’s grew 6.7% on a 15.8% operating margin.

Inside the group, Accenture comes second of five on revenue growth and third of five on operating margin. On the twelve-month return it comes fourth. IBM leads on both growth and margin and trades at 21.4 times earnings against Accenture’s 14.5, which is the order you would expect. What the shares did over the year does not fit that order.

Is Accenture Still Just Selling Consultants?

Management’s answer is more revenue that is not priced by the head. The clearest example is OT security, which protects power grids, pipelines and manufacturing plants rather than office systems. Accenture is buying its way in as part of roughly $9 billion of acquisitions expected in fiscal 2026, real money against $73.1 billion of trailing revenue, and says the OT investment more than triples its addressable market there.

The second piece is Accenture Edge, a new business aimed at companies with between $300 million and $3 billion of revenue. Management sizes that mid-market at $240 billion and casts it as a structural offset to soft discretionary spending at large clients. Neither that mid-market push nor OT security relies strictly on billable hours, and the peer table has no column for either.

Did Accenture Buy That Growth Or Win It?

Accenture’s June outlook trimmed fiscal 2026 local-currency revenue growth to 3% to 4% (from 3% to 5% previously), or 4% to 5% excluding its federal business, while nudging its adjusted earnings guidance up. Fourth-quarter revenue was guided to $17.75 billion to $18.4 billion, with the CFO noting that macro uncertainty left the full range in play; that quarter ended August 31 with results still pending.

The risk sits inside the growth. Management expected about 1.5 points of that 3% to 4% full-year growth to come from acquisitions rather than work won, and expected slightly under 2 points of inorganic contribution entering fiscal 2027. Roughly $100 million of consulting revenue went missing against plan in the fiscal third quarter on the Middle East conflict, with regional quarterly bookings taking an estimated $400 million hit, and a couple of large managed services deals slid into fiscal 2027.

So the market holds a stock whose share price reflects business contraction against a business that is still growing, partly by purchase. The steep 12-month selloff looks heavy against the fundamentals in the table without being absurd.
