Would You Be Glad To Own Accenture If Its Consulting Work Stays Slow?
Accenture (ACN) trades about 37% below its 52-week high after a 27% drop over the past year. In fiscal Q3 2026, new bookings fell and a couple of managed services deals slipped into fiscal 2027. Selling a put pays you now to agree to buy the shares well below today’s price, and the payment is yours either way. It only works if you want the business at that price.
11% annualized yield at a 30% margin of safety, by selling put options.
- Sell a put option on ACN expiring 9/17/2027, with a strike price of $125.
- Collect roughly $960 in premium per contract (each contract covers 100 shares).
- That works out to about 7.5% annualized on the $12,500 of cash you set aside to secure the trade.
- Park that cash in Treasury bills or a Treasury money-market fund yielding roughly 4.0%, and your total yield climbs to about 11.5%.
- And if ACN falls below $125, you buy it at $125, an effective entry near $115.4 a share after the premium, about a 35% discount to today’s $177.91.
Two Outcomes, You Keep The Premium Either Way
If ACN stays above $125 through 9/17/2027, the put expires worthless and you simply keep the full $960 premium. That is about 7.5% annualized on the $12,500 you set aside over 372 days, while that same collateral keeps earning the ~4.0% T-bill yield on top, for the ~11.5% total above. You never buy the stock and keep the income, free to do it again.
If ACN closes below $125, you are assigned and buy 100 shares at $125. The $960 premium you already pocketed lowers your effective cost to about $115.40 a share, roughly a 35% discount to today’s price, though if the stock has fallen further by then you would be holding a paper loss.

Is Accenture Still Worth Owning With Bookings Slipping?
Underneath, the business is still highly profitable. Accenture brought in $73.1 billion of revenue over the past twelve months, and in fiscal Q3 2026 its operating margin widened to 17% while managed services revenue grew 5% in local currency. Big clients keep committing: in the first nine months of fiscal 2026, clients made 104 quarterly bookings of more than $100 million, 13% more than a year earlier.
The weak spot is consulting, which grew just 1% in local currency in fiscal Q3 2026, a slowdown management ties to the Middle East conflict, both in the region and in discretionary spending outside it. The deeper problem is one the CEO concedes: even with AI, client budgets have not been growing, and clients are simply spending them differently.
Can Accenture Grow If Its Clients Are Not Spending More?
Management’s answer is to find new buyers. It launched Accenture Edge for mid-market companies, a $240 billion addressable market by its own estimate, and in August agreed to buy Tokyo-based COMWARE and the Dutch SAP partner McCoy, both serving that segment. In June it also agreed to buy a majority stake in a security platform for power grids and pipelines, plus two other security firms.
Those security deals are small: $208 million of annual recurring revenue, equal to roughly 0.3% of Accenture’s revenue over the past twelve months. Including them, the roughly $9 billion of fiscal 2026 acquisitions planned as of June was expected to add slightly below 2% of inorganic growth entering fiscal 2027, the CFO said.
Bought growth cannot show whether consulting clients are spending more, so the number to watch is consulting growth in local currency. In June, the CFO expected consulting to tick up in fiscal Q4, whose results are pending, citing the federal business returning to growth and four consecutive quarters of consulting bookings growth, despite the conflict’s drag. If consulting growth climbs from 1%, the core may be mending, unless acquisitions supplied the gain. If it stays near 1%, managed services and the acquisitions are carrying the growth.
So Is Accenture Worth Being Paid To Wait For?
Perhaps, if you would be content owning a profitable services firm with modest growth, but not if you are really buying the AI and security pivot. The shares have risen 5.6% over the past three months, yet they traded as low as $122.96 within the past 52 weeks, beneath the strike.
It is tempting to judge the trade by its yield, since the payment lands on day one and the shares only after bad news. The premium is rich because implied volatility on Accenture options sits in the 70th percentile of its range over the past year. A rich premium pays you more for the same downside without shrinking it. The cash-secured put yield screen lets you check whether that premium stands out more broadly or is the going rate.
