Should You Buy The Dip In Marvell Stock?
Marvell Technology (MRVL) stock closed at $245.28 on October 14, 2026, down 14.5% from its October 6 close. That close came the day the shares rallied after the chip designer raised its long-term sales outlook on growing data-center demand. For investors who missed the initial rally, the lower price can look like a second chance. Should you take it?

Twelve Months On, Marvell Usually Traded Lower
Since the start of 2010, Marvell stock has recorded 15 declines of more than 20% within 30 trading days. The recent fall from its October 6 close has not reached that depth, so these past dips are a rough guide rather than a close match. The latest of those 15 drops occurred in July 2026. Because that event is less than a year old, 14 past periods can be judged. Six of those 14 ended higher twelve months later, and eight ended lower. The median result a year on was a fall of 8.0%.
Buyers who held the stock faced further losses. In the median case, the shares dropped 20.2% at some point in the year after the dip. Investors holding out for that year’s best price waited a median 279 days, or about nine months, to see it.

How Fast Is Marvell’s Business Growing?
Marvell’s revenue grew 36.5% from a year earlier in fiscal Q2 2027, reaching $2.74 billion. GAAP operating margin rose to 16.7% that quarter, from 14.9% a year before, meaning Marvell kept more of each dollar it sold.
This growth also appeared as cash. Marvell’s operations generated $606 million in the quarter, compared with $462 million a year earlier. Management guided fiscal Q3 2027 revenue of $3.15 billion, above the $2.74 billion just reported. Marvell’s next report is expected in late November or early December.
What Are You Paying For Marvell’s Growth?
Investors are paying far more than for the market as a whole. A buyer at the October 14 close pays about $23 for each dollar of Marvell’s yearly sales, against about $3 for the S&P 500.
Marvell’s profit is also less steady than its sales. Of the $2.64 billion Marvell earned over its last four quarters, $1.9 billion came in a single quarter, fiscal Q3 2026. Operating income in that quarter was $367 million, meaning most of that quarter’s profit came from a $1.8 billion pre-tax gain on selling its automotive Ethernet business to Infineon.
Buying shares now requires a bet that a larger, more profitable Marvell will reward buyers more reliably than its past dips did. That bet comes at several times the market’s price for each dollar of sales. Revenue against management’s guide for fiscal Q3 2027 is the crucial figure to watch in that report.

Our purpose is to inform you with unique data so you can make the right investment decisions. That said, betting on a single stock is always risky, no matter which direction you choose.
There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
