The Travelers Companies

The Travelers Company (NYSE:TRV) reported weak earnings for the first quarter with operating income dropping by about 16% year-over-year (y-o-y) and combined ratio (the ratio of claims to premiums earned) increasing by 340 basis points to 92.3%. The decline in operating income was primarily due to increased catastrophe losses caused by the wind and hail storms in Texas.
