What Is The Market Share of The Top Three ETF Providers In The U.S. And Globally?
The ETF industry has swelled in size from being a little-known investment offering a decade ago to well over $3 trillion now, thanks to the convenience and transparency they provide to institutional as well as retail investors. Over the years, BlackRock, Vanguard and State Street have emerged as the leaders in the industry – together managing more than 80% of all ETF assets in the U.S., and roughly 70% of all ETF assets globally. The tables below detail the market shares of the three companies as of April 2016.

While State Street’s position in the ETF industry has slipped over recent quarters, BlackRock and Vanguard have continued to tighten their grip on the industry by leveraging their size to slash fees on their core ETF offerings. This strategy, coupled with their increasing focus on retail investors, is expected to drive strong growth in their ETF assets in the future.
