NASDAQ Sees Growth In Cash Equity Trading Volumes, Market Share In Q2
NASDAQ‘s (NASDAQ:NDAQ) cash equity trading volumes, which remained under pressure over the past few quarters, saw a significant improvement in Q2 with around 79.3 billion shares traded in the U.S. market, in comparison to previous quarter’s 74.7 billion shares. Although the volumes were marginally lower in comparison to the previous year’s comparable quarter, we attribute that to the decline in the overall U.S. cash equity market. Moreover, the company’s market share improved from the previous quarter and Q2 2016 by 80 basis points and 100 basis points, respectively, to 17.6%. We believe the strengthening of the U.S. dollar, interest rate hike and other macro factors contributed to increased volatility in the market, and consequently drove trading volumes.
