NASDAQ saw 19% and 15% year on year (y-o-y) declines in its cash equity trading volumes in July across the U.S. and Europe, respectively. While European volumes had been showing a downtrend throughout the year, U.S. volumes declined for the first time in July, likely driven by increased competition and weak market conditions.

Going forward, we expect the cash equity volumes to reverse this trend in the U.S., due to industry-wide improvements in cash equity trading volumes. However, the European volumes are likely to keep declining.
