Duke Energy (NYSE: DUK) will release its second-quarter results and conduct a conference call with analysts on 2nd August 2018. Consensus market estimates expect the company to post a relatively flat EPS (Non-GAAP) of $1.02 per share vis-à-vis an EPS (Non-GAAP) of $1.01 posted a year ago. Revenue is also expected to display a marginal growth rate of 1% and is anticipated to be reported at $5.61 billion. The company’s performance in the second quarter is likely to be supported by favorable weather conditions in its service locations and a growth in its electric and gas utilities investments.

Duke’s second-quarter revenue is likely to be boosted by higher revenue across its electric utilities and infrastructure segment due to higher expected household expenditure on cooling as the weather across the company’s distribution locations have remained warm through the second quarter. Additionally, the company had announced $38 million in tax savings to be passed on to its customers through its electric and gas bills in Ohio and Kentucky, starting April and May. Lower bill rates are consequently expected to result in an increased volume and revenue for the company during the quarter. The company has additionally filed for lower rates across several of its other service areas to pass on the same tax advantage to its customers. This is expected to support the company’s volume growth through the remainder of the year.

Additionally, Duke’s successful strategic investments to expand its electric and gas infrastructure business is expected to continue and augment the company’s overall growth through increased customers and volumes, similar to the previous quarter.
