The Chinese wireless carriers had a relatively lackluster November, with net subscriber additions across the industry slowing down to about 2.1 million for the month, roughly half the October tally. The decline in subscriber growth was partly due to the full implementation of real name registration that required subscribers to register their mobile connections with their real identities by the end of November. That said, high speed net additions remained robust with the major players adding or migrating a total of 21 million subscribers to their 4G services.

While market leader China Mobile  (NYSE:CHL) continued to lead the industry with 1.4 million net subscriber additions, China Unicom (NYSE:CHU) added about 0.41 million subscribers. China Telecom added just 0.26 million subscribers last month, compared to an average of over 1.6 million during 2016, as the carrier had to terminate services of subscribers who did not comply with the real name regulation.
