Is Bloom Energy Stock Priced Right Against Its Peers?
Shares of Bloom Energy (BE) rose 117.8% in the year to October 14, 2026, comfortably outpacing peers Cummins and Linde. Bloom also delivered the fastest sales growth among the group, yet its operating margin only matches Cummins’ and sits well below Linde’s. So what are you paying for that growth, next to what Cummins costs?

Bloom Energy Costs About What Cummins Does
Investors pay about as much for Bloom Energy as they do for Cummins, a significantly larger business. Bloom’s market value was $68.8 billion, compared with $72.5 billion for Cummins. Over their respective latest four quarters, Cummins sold about 11 times as much as Bloom.
Investors are paying for top-line expansion. Bloom’s sales rose 91% over its latest four quarters, compared with 2.9% at Cummins. On each dollar of sales, the two companies earn about the same: Bloom’s four-quarter operating margin was 11.2%, placing it in line with Cummins’.
| BE | CMI | LIN | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Four Fiscal Quarters | Jul 2025-Jun 2026 | Jul 2025-Jun 2026 | Jul 2025-Jun 2026 |
| Market Value (USD billion) | 68.8 | 72.5 | 228 |
| P/E | 280.7 (not in the P/E rank) | 26.7 | 31.5 |
| Revenue Growth | 91% | 2.9% | 6.6% |
| Operating Margin | 11.2% | 11.1% | 27.1% |
| Share Price Change, 2025-10-13 to 2026-10-14 | 117.8% | 30.5% | 9.4% |
Bloom’s P/E of about 281 defies a clean comparison with its peers, because Bloom reported a net loss in its July to September 2025 quarter. A price-to-earnings multiple in the hundreds signals that the profit supporting the share price remains close to zero.
Linde, an industrial gases supplier, earns the most on each sale among the three companies. Its operating margin was 27.1%, while its sales grew 6.6%. Because Linde operates in a different business from Bloom, its higher margin may come from what it sells rather than how well the company is run.
What Bloom Energy Earned From April To June
From April to June 2026, Bloom Energy’s sales rose 165.5% from a year earlier. The fuel-cell maker achieved an operating margin of 17.1% that quarter, moving past the small operating loss it recorded a year before. Following the company’s July 28, 2026 report, market coverage noted that AI had validated fuel-cell technology.
During that three-month window, Bloom earned far more on each sale than it did over its latest four quarters. Those four quarters still include the period from July to September 2025, when Bloom’s operating margin sat at 1.5%.
Bloom is also bringing in more cash. The company generated free cash flow of $625 million over the four quarters, compared with $44 million a year earlier.
What Could Trip Up Bloom Energy?
On July 28, management raised its 2026 sales forecast to a range of $3.9 billion to $4.2 billion. The midpoint of that range sits at $4.05 billion, marking an increase from the $3.6 billion management forecast in April.
The risk to the current valuation centers on Bloom’s operating margin, which has not risen every quarter. Bloom’s quarterly operating margin was 11.3% from October to December 2025, followed by 9.6% from January to March 2026.
The price appears to assume that Bloom keeps growing far faster than Cummins and Linde while keeping the higher margin it earned from April to June. Bloom has sustained this pace of growth for four quarters, alongside the higher margin for one. Heading into its next report, expected on or around October 22, 2026, Bloom’s operating margin is the number to watch.
