Activision Blizzard Earnings Preview: Expecting Strong Results
Gaming giant, Activision Blizzard (NYSE:ATVI), is scheduled to report its Q1 earnings on November 3 and we believe that the company had another good quarter, following its success in Q2. Burgeoning popularity of “Call of Duty,” the tremendous response to “Overwatch,” continued strength of King Entertainment’s “Candy Crush,” and great reception to World of Warcraft’s “Legion” would have driven the top line for the company. In the last quarter, the company’s revenues more than doubled year over year primarily due to the acquisition of King Digital and the strong response to the competitive game “Overwatch.” Since the launch of the so called futuristic first person shooter game on May 24 2016, it has garnered a staggering 15 million players globally.
The new expansion for World of Warcraft has provided a significant near term increase in subscribers. Moreover, Activision’s growth would have received a lift from the launch of a new adventure for “Hearthstone,” an expansion of the “Destiny” universe, a new game entitled “Skylanders: Imaginators,” and the highly anticipated “Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare.” Although much of the growth during the quarter will be attributable to the acquisition of King Digital, Activision’s organic growth would have also played a vital role.
