  • After Spending the 1st 24 years of my life in the home improvement industry and now a vendor rep, I have an opinion about this article.
Any intelligent math major can make numbers back up a point they are trying to make. Bottom line the Lowes could not hold a candle to the Old Home Depot when Bernie & Arthur were CEO & President. Back then Home Depot knew its niche and ran the industry. Once Robert Nardelli took over he changed he philosophy and almost ruined the company that was founded on customer service & being in stock. These are 2 things Lowes have never done. Nardelli also got rid of all the experience employees because they made too much money. Home Depot went from 6 priorities of life of, Customer Service, Customer Service, Customer Service, Customer Service, Customer Service & Kick(Lowes) Ass, to Lets appease the stock holders, buy as much from China.
Home Depot is trying to recapture the magic, are doing a pretty good job. Lowes NEVER had the magic. They are like the CUBS, hoping for a better year next year. As for Nardelli, do what a famous American general, General Douglas MacArthur once said, just fade away...... please DON'T do what he said 3 years earlier......... you smart people all know what that was. I think Chrysler Corp feels the same way.
One last thing, Lowes tries to hire old Home Depot Employees & Managers hoping to capture the Magic. They don't realize that the Managers they think the lured away from Home Depot were less than a year away from being fired because they didn't understand what bleeding orange meant.
Lowes if you want to capture the magic, get in stock, take care of your employees, and most of all learn what customer service is.
