Why Did Accenture Stock Jump?
Between July 17 and October 15, 2026, Accenture (ACN) stock rose 57.9%, while the S&P 500 gained 4.1%. The single biggest day in that run occurred on October 1. The company reported its fiscal fourth quarter results, provided a forecast for fiscal 2027, and saw its shares rise 15.8%. So did Accenture’s business change as much as its share price did?

Investors Now Pay Far More For Accenture’s Profit
Not nearly as much. For fiscal 2026, which ended August 31, Accenture earned $13.56 a share, up 12% from $12.15 a year earlier. Part of that gain came from smaller one-time charges: business optimization costs reduced earnings by $0.78 a share in fiscal 2025 but only $0.41 in fiscal 2026. Excluding those costs, earnings rose 8% to $13.97 a share. In the fourth quarter alone, earnings rose 9% to $3.29 a share against an adjusted $3.03 a year earlier. That is steady growth, but the share price rose about five times as fast. Investors now pay far more for that profit. At the end of June, the shares traded at 10.0 times trailing earnings, the lowest at any quarter end since fiscal 2016, when this record begins. The share price had already risen 16.8% from its June 30 close by July 17, when this run began. On October 15 the shares traded at 16.6 times trailing earnings, still below the S&P 500 at 22.7 times.
Accenture did not rise alone. Over those same dates, peer Cognizant gained 48%. On October 1, Reuters reported that Accenture’s forecast of stronger-than-expected annual revenue growth had eased concerns that AI-driven disruption could weigh on technology spending.
Accenture’s Bookings Ran Ahead Of Revenue
The October report showed clients are still signing new work with Accenture. Revenue for the fiscal fourth quarter reached $18.7 billion. That figure was up 7% in local currency, coming in above the top of the range management had forecast. Meanwhile, new bookings, the value of contracts signed in the quarter, were $22.2 billion, or 1.2 times revenue. Managed services bookings reached a record $12.8 billion, a category management says comes from large deals that are lumpy.
Some of that work involves AI. Nearly 100 more clients began their first advanced AI work with Accenture in the quarter, bringing the fiscal 2026 total to more than 400. Asked about AI lowering the value of renewed contracts, management said the company is giving clients more productivity from AI and offsetting that with new kinds of work and more scope. Not everything improved, though. Management also noted that Accenture saw lower pricing in many areas of its business in the fourth quarter.
Accenture Still Expects Single-Digit Growth
The share price moved a long way, but Accenture’s pace of growth did not. Revenue for fiscal 2026 was $74 billion, up about 5% in local currency. For fiscal 2027, management forecasts growth of 3% to 6% in local currency. The company expects acquisitions to add 2 to 2.5 percentage points of that growth.
Revenue growth in local currency, measured against that 3% to 6% forecast, is the number to watch when Accenture next reports. That update is expected on or around December 16, 2026.
Does This Mean You Should Act On ACN?
Our purpose is to inform you with unique data so you make the right investment decisions. That said, betting on a single stock is always risky, no matter which direction you choose.
There is a smarter approach. Since its inception, the Trefis High Quality (HQ) Portfolio has returned 105%, beating the benchmark that combines the three major indices – the S&P 500, S&P Mid-cap, and Russell 2000. And it did so without taking the concentrated risk that comes with do-it-yourself stock picking. If that is how you want to invest, the HQ Portfolio is the place to start.
