Increasing usage of smarpthones (iPhone, BlackBerry, Palm) has made mobile phone subscribers heavy data users and more sensitive to data speeds offered by carriers. Sprint is promoting itself as a “4G network” suggesting that it offers faster mobile data connections (internet, text, video) than its competitors AT&T and Verizon which are primarily 3G networks.
Although Sprint’s 4G coverage is still spotty, the company is racing ahead to be the largest 4G network which it will leverage as a point of differentiation for attracting new Sprint subscribers. The company’s subscriber count has declined in recent years from 27.5 million in 2007 to less than 25 million today.
Do you think Sprint’s 4G network will help the company to attract subscribers away from AT&T and Verizon?
