Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) is planning to launch the next version of Windows – Windows 8 – around October 2012. It is going to be one of its biggest launches yet, and will target the PC, notebook and tablet markets. It will come with a number of enhancements, the most important being the Metro interface. In a recent update on Windows 8, Microsoft said that the Twitter-like Sina Weibo will be integrated into the People app on Windows 8, which is an advanced contacts app that offers social integration and cloud-based sync features. The People app enables users to stay connected and view all contact information and social updates about their friends, as well as engage with them through a single interface.
It will be integrated with all major social networks and services, including Sina (NASDAQ:SINA) Weibo which could benefit a lot by being integrated within Windows 8. We expect Sina to see higher engagement levels on its platform following the launch of Windows 8, which is expected to sell hundreds of millions of copies.
Sina Weibo is the largest Chinese microblogging service and will also be integrated in Apple‘s (NASDAQ:AAPL) next major releases – Mountain Lion and iOS 6 – which should also drive usage and engagement metrics for the service.
We currently have a $66 Trefis price estimate for Sina, which stands nearly 20% above its market price.
