What Was The Share Of Major U.S. Investment Banks In Global Debt Origination Industry For Q2 2016?
Global debt capital markets saw a sharp increase in activity levels for the second quarter, with the total size of debt origination deals globally swelling to $1.9 trillion in Q2 2016 from an already high $1.6 trillion figure in Q1 2016. [1] This made the first half of this year the best period for the debt origination business since the economic downturn. The higher deal volumes can be attributed to the fact that companies around the globe postponed their plans to raise debt over the second half of 2015 in view of weak market conditions. This built a strong pipeline of deals which began clearing up in 2016 as the economic outlook improved.
The five largest U.S. investment banks leveraged their strength in the industry to capture a ~25% share of the global debt origination market in terms of total deal volumes for Q2 2016.

Notably, JPMorgan reported a larger market share than any other bank globally for the second consecutive quarter. JPMorgan’s dominance in global debt capital markets becomes evident from the fact that the bank has held the #1 position in 16 of the last 20 quarters..
