In the month of August 2016, the low cost carrier, JetBlue, saw its capacity increase 5.7%. Including this month, so far in the year, capacity is up as much as 10.6% for JetBlue. Its passenger traffic increased by 6.2%, and passengers boarded grew by 7.0%. This is likely due to the carrier’s prompt response to the restoration of ties between the U.S. and Mexico and Cuba. It was one of the first airlines to announce the launch of new flights to Cuba and Mexico.

However, JetBlue’s unit revenues continued to drop at 5.5%. It expects the decline in the metric to be less steep going forward, in the range of 3%-4%.
