China is the world’s largest consumer of copper in the world, accounting for around 40% of the global consumption of the metal. However, China only accounts for around 10% of the world’s mined copper production. Thus, the country has to import a significant portion of its copper requirements, and is a major determiner of the global demand for the metal and therefore, its prices.
