Expedia is planning to be among the first OTAs to use artificial intelligence for  its customer service according to its CEO’s statement at the Skift Global Forum. Artificial intelligence is the science of analyzing data to comprehend and hence forecast consumer behavior. However, Expedia’s CEO also pointed out that there is a significant lack of data to work on currently, given that travelers take only one or two vacations a year.  In this context, Priceline.com’s founder and current CEO of business travel startup Upside, Jay Walker, stated that artificial intelligence can be more applicable for the customer service of business service currently, because that takes place more frequently and hence there’s no dearth of data. Also, the business travelers prefer convenience over money.

With the increased dependence on technology, the demands for virtual reality will keep growing and the companies embracing these ideas will surely reap the benefits of the first mover advantage.
