How Will eBay’s Ticketbis Acquisition Impact Its Top Line?
eBay (NASDAQ:EBAY) recently reported that it had finalized a deal to acquire Spanish online ticket platform Ticketbis to expand its StubHub ticket business in international markets. Although terms of the deal were not disclosed, TechCrunch put the acquisition price at $165 million, citing anonymous sources. [1]
StubHub generated revenues of $730 million in 2015 and $177 million in Q1 2016, with about 2% coming from international markets. The Ticketbis acquisition will help StubHub improve this share by expanding operations in 47 countries across Latin America, Europe and Asia-Pacific. Ticketbis is also likely to help StubHub improve its market share in Germany and Mexico, which it entered in September 2015 and May 2016, respectively.
While the acquisition is likely to help increase StubHub’s international revenues, it will have a minimal impact on eBay’s overall top line. Moreover, the company stated that it is unlikely to have any impact on eBay’s sales in 2016 and its earlier stated guidance is not being revised.
