Notebook PC shoppers may have noticed that Google search has three interesting suggestions: notebook computers under $500, $400 and $200. HP and Dell both currently have lines of “Mini” notebook PCs for under $400 and four out of five of Dell’s commonly purchased Inspiron model notebooks are priced under $500.
What’s surprising is how much PC notebook prices have fallen so quickly and what it implies for the future of PC makers like Dell, HP and Apple.

Average notebook PC prices have fallen the most for PC makers Dell and HP over the past few years. At least two factors are contributing to these declines:
1. Increased competition from Taiwan-based Acer.
2. Cannibalization from Netbooks – notebook PCs with limited function and a low price tag
