What Should We Expect From Delta’s 1Q 2016 Results?
Delta Air Lines (NYSE:DAL), the third largest airline by traffic, is slated to release its March quarter 2016 financial results on 14th April 2016. Due to fears of an oversupply of seats in the market, the company has restricted its system capacity growth to less than 3%, 2% lower compared to same quarter last year. While this is likely to ease the pricing power for the airline, foreign currency fluctuations during the quarter are expected to pull down its revenue. As a result, the market expects Delta’s 1Q’16 revenue to be around $9.28 billion, 1% lower compared to 1Q’15.
On the cost side, however, the Atlanta-based airline is expected to meet its operating margin guidance. This will be primarily driven by the lower fuel costs because of depressed oil prices during the last three months, partially offset by higher unit costs. Overall, the consensus anticipates Delta’s EPS to grow by more than 30% on a year-on-year basis.
