Salesforce’s Rypple Gets the Enterprise More Social

Salesforce.com (NYSE:CRM) recently announced the launch of Salesforce Rypple, a new social performance management platform which it acquired through its acquisition of Rypple, a cloud-based social performance management software maker, in December 2011. [1] Rypple’s offering enables companies to help employees improve their performance using a social and collaborative approach. Salesforce Rypple marks Salesforce.com’s entry into the human capital management market, wherein it will compete with other enterprise software giants such as Oracle (NASDAQ:ORCL), SAP (NYSE:SAP) and Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT).

Rypple has various features such as badges, skills, goals and game mechanics, which enable managers to improve team performance by setting goals, managing objectives and providing feedback in a social and interactive manner. It already has a large enterprise customer base that includes Facebook, LivingSocial, Spotify, Gilt Groupe, Kobo, Mozilla and Rackspace.

Rypple’s features will also be integrated into Salesforce.com’s other cloud-based products like the Sales Cloud, the Service Cloud and Chatter. Through Salesforce Rypple, companies and managers can thank salespeople directly on closing a sale, converting a lead or providing great service to customers using badges. They can also thank employees through Chatter, giving them visibility throughout the company network.

Cloud computing apps like Rypple and Chatter account for around 37% of Salesforce.com’s $122 Trefis price estimate, which stands nearly 15% below its current market price.
