How Will The Restart Of The Northshore Mining Operations Impact Cliffs’ Iron Ore Pellets Production Capacity?
Cliffs Natural Resources recently announced plans to restart its idled Northshore Mining iron ore pellet production operations. With a rated capacity of 6 million tons per year, the restart of operations at Northshore will boost Cliffs active iron ore pellets production capacity by around 28%. Though Cliffs has not revised its production guidance for the year, restarting the Northshore operations will put it in a position to quickly expand output. This would be useful if preliminary anti-dumping duties on steel imports from a number of countries, including China, are confirmed in the final ruling by the Department of Commerce expected later this year, and this results in a rise in demand for domestically produced steel and consequently, iron ore.
