Ameritrade saw its key monthly metrics improve in May. End of period brokerage accounts were up 3% year-on-year, while the company’s daily average trades rose 4% in the period. Furthermore, average interest earning assets continued to grow impressively at 11% y-o-y, attributable to the hike in interest rates implemented by the Fed at the end of 2015. However, average assets under management stagnated in the period, likely due to growing competition. Going forward, we expect the average interest earning assets to continue to rise, supported by the expectation of a Fed rate hike by the end of 2016, even as fee-based balances stay flat.
