At its MAX 2011 conference, Adobe (NASDAQ:ADBE) unveiled its plans for the future. It already announced the launch of its new cloud service – Creative Cloud, as well as 6 new tablet apps including Photoshop Touch. It also announced the acquisition of Nitobi Software, the creator of PhoneGap, which allows you to create cross platform mobile apps using HTML5 and JavaScript. Now, it has also announced that it has acquired Typekit, which provides licensed fonts and typography for use on websites. [1] Typekit will be integrated into the Creative Software division by Adobe, and will be offered alongside Adobe’s web development and design software. Adobe competes primarily with Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL), Quark and Corel in the creative software market.

Creative Software accounts for more than 50% of Adobe’s $35 Trefis price estimate, which stands nearly 45% above its current market price.

Typekit to Enhance Adobe’s Web Design Offerings

Typekit offers an easy way to integrate fonts into websites and ensure that they are displayed consistently across all modern web browsers on computers, smartphones and tablets. It already has more than 250,000 customers and is available as a subscription based cloud service.

It will initially be offered as a standalone service, and will eventually be integrated with Creative Cloud. Adobe is moving rapidly to latch on to the momentum with which tablets and mobile platforms are expanding, and is launching new software which helps users create content for them. It has already launched multiple HTML5 development tools, as well as tool kits for mobile app development.
