Similar to its product shake-up in September, Google (NASDAQ:GOOG) has yet again decided to let go of more product that failed to yield tangible benefits. [1] The products include Google’s eco-friendly initiative, Renewable Energy Cheaper than Coal (RE<C), Google Friend Connect (A pre-cursor to Google+) and Google Knol. It seems that the company needs a single-minded focus to counter its 2 biggest rivals in the social and mobile space, namely Facebook and Apple (NASDAQ:AAPL).

Post-Motorola Purchase, Google Has Renewed Mobile Focus

Since the purchase of Motorola Mobility (NYSE:MMI), Google has visibly cut down on a lot of products that could never take-off from their beta-stage. While this might reflect a change in the company’s culture, the search giant is busy pushing Android and other mobile initiatives in a fiercely competitive market. T

his means a significant shift of resources (including man-power and product development costs) away from otherwise mediocre products. Additionally, Google+ is now projected as the one-stop shop for any social media initiatives for Google, and older products like Friend Connect have become redundant at best.

We currently have a price estimate near $628 for Google’s stock, which is around 8% above the current market price.
